For more on grasshopper plagues, see either “On the Banks of Plum Creek” by Laura Ingalls Wilder or “Sod and Stubble” by John Ise. In both books, what struck me as even more horrifying than the plague of grasshoppers was the ensuing plague of grasshopper eggs. If grasshoppers are edible, what about their eggs? Could you make a grasshopper egg omelet if you had enough of them?

Two things. Firstly, I did a quick calculation of my own and got 44,431. I think there's probably a rounding difference that accounts for this extra one person. Secondly, it's important to note that this calc assumes a random, independent, uniform distribution of probabilities.
