@The Observer: Yep, and I'm actually thinking about using a seperate program for that (audacity) since it's better for that sort of thing. Hopefully that particular experiment will go well!

@Campadrenalin: Apparently all my reply comments are completely screwed up for some reason. I don't think I can move them around to make logical sense at this point.

As much as I love to do glitchy drum solos, I don't know if it really works in this song. I'm considering letting the distorted midtone synth run quietly underneath it. Any other ideas?
- Jon Horger on October 17, 2009 19:59
@Campadrenalin: I think it sounds great! I especially love the vocal samples!
- Campadrenalin on October 22, 2009 03:41
@Jon Horger: They're a clipped and looped version of something I got from a free sample site. I later played it really high on the keyboard so that it aliased, recorded that, and used it as another instrument.
- Campadrenalin on October 30, 2009 20:04
@The Observer: Thank you very much! I tried to use lots of glitchy/gameboyish sounds for instruments.

This is an early version, still have to work out the mix and stuff, so comment on anything you'd like to see changed. I got a lot of glitchy elements in here without it really sounding glitchy... samples made with SFXR, some lofi-degradation, an instrument made by playing the vocal sample so fast... - Solipsis Artwork

This is a custom effect plugin that I made for high-speed stutter. I never got it to work "correctly," but I got some pretty cool sounds out of it. I think both instances are being fed with pure whitenoise.

The bass is swinging! Good, man
- Campadrenalin on August 15, 2009 23:58
Thanks! Due to what I was doing with the atmospheric melody thing (mixing it with a backwards copy of itself) it was a lot easier to keep the track moving by constantly changing the bassline.

- Campadrenalin on September 18, 2009 06:10
@Dannymorr: Thanks, I like to keep from repeating myself or other people. I can never get my mixes to sound really pro, though. Your tracks are kinda my ultimate goal in that respect.
- Danny Morr on September 18, 2009 12:01
@Campadrenalin: originality is the key, I've only been producing for a few years and I learned everything myself and through studying how other peoples tracks are made, stick at it!

- Jon Horger on September 23, 2009 01:35
@Campadrenalin: I think the thing that is the most amazing about it is how awesome it sounds and how limited your instrument selection is. Your music sounds better than mine and I have a lot more VI's than you. I am very proud of what you have accomplished.
- Campadrenalin on September 25, 2009 10:24
@jon Horger: Thanks! I have a lot more instruments than I actually use, because there's a few simple ones that I just tweak around to get the sound I want. I use them all the time because I can fit the whole plugin in my head, which is also a side effect of using them all the time.

Wish I'd dropped by before - this track is great. Good combination of soft melodic stuff, crude beat (in a good way) and a heavy saw based synth sound. Really like it
- Campadrenalin on September 21, 2009 21:29
@Der Derian: Thanks so much! It took a lot of work to get the melody part to play harmonically with its reverse waveform for both themes, and I'm glad people appreciate it!

Thanks! I think I get my style from starting out my musical "career" in a MIDI-to-keyboard arrangement, a dark hellscape with neither track-FX nor reliable pitch sliding. It's all about the melody(s) and how they blend.

Originally was gonna have lots of lyrics, but I decided against it, focusing on the music and the constantly changing, intertwining melodies. It ended up being a pretty chilly thing. Great use of synthesizers in the song, the melodies and arpeggios provide many rhythmic components also, that enrich the track.

wow dulcimer sounds really nice, also like the rhythmic real world sounds
- Campadrenalin on August 02, 2009 19:14
@raytrace: I consider myself lucky on this account, since getting synth to sound like real instruments can be hit and miss.
- Jon Horger on September 23, 2009 01:37
@Campadrenalin: I am very impressed with how you have learned to sync the dulcimer to the music. Much better than your older tracks. I didn't realize that you built the dulcimer. That just blows my mind
- Campadrenalin on September 25, 2009 10:29
@jon Horger: Now I'm all embarrassed! There's no actual recorded dulcimer in this whole thing, I carefully tweaked a string synth VST to sound as close as I could, and then used slight trigger delays to make it sound like I was strumming instead of playing all the notes exactly at once. And it was STILL less work than syncing live dulcimer! How sad is that? I used the same technique in Snow at the Lodge, too.

good job nice instrument the dulcimer
- Campadrenalin on July 20, 2009 09:00
@The Observer: Yeah, I like it. Can't play it well when I'm trying to record, but it plays fine when I'm just fiddling around with it :/ So basically, I use it to compose stuff, but I rarely use samples anymore. I'm trying to remember what company we got it from, because it's like 90% cardboard but it sounds awesome, it came as a kit that I assembled and gave a horrible purple paint job that I now totally regret.

It was kinda easy to do, since I was already razoring up a drumbeat and flipping it everywhere. I noticed how when the song restarted at the end (Renoise looping thing) the drumloop kept playing in reverse. So I slowed it down. I get a lot of my musical ideas from accidental loops like that showing me what's just around the corner if I let it happen.
