This little change up is sick, i wish you would lengthen it a lot more. i also like how the song switches to double time! it really is a great combination of styles you got goin. to make the song more listenable i would say shorten the song, dub it out a little, just have the drums and bass for a little, or just the guitar and percussion, etc... good stuff

This is Rot Fish Dub. It started out as a rockers style dub, which for me is very difficult and time consuming to write well--especially in terms of drums. I aborted mission on the purely rocker style upon the lazy addition of an electronic rhythm loop that helped move the drums along. The resulting dub has much more of an electronica bent than what I'd originally intended. But Rot Fish Dub remains rooted in heavy rockers dub rhythm--or at least it is so inspired.

This is a slow rolling dub—something I worked out atop the Oljeto rhythm I wrote last winter. It’s sparse, slow, dark and threatening. And it’s very simple. I wanted it to come together slowly, so as to demand some patience. And that it does. Santiago is my God son. I now live far from him and don’t see him often. So I wrote him a song. I doubt he’ll like it until he gets older—but if love of reggae is a genetic trait I expect he’ll appreciate this some day.

Good job with the slow build - it's hot when you bring in the real bass here... not sure if you were trying to keep "open" but if not would be a great place to bring in an additional melodic element
- BABY ARM SOUND SYSTEM on August 08, 2009 16:09
Good idea, and thanks. I'll chew on it. I want to keep it sparse, but have considered something melodic to ride atop too. I agree that this would be the place to do it -- when the bass drops.

Ok, first i have to say I love this track to death. I like how you come in with the piano/ keyboard here at 2:30 but i keep saying to myself, i wish it sounded more like a traditional piano instead of a casio...but if that's what you were going for, u nailed it. big respect
- BABY ARM SOUND SYSTEM on August 22, 2009 16:20
@dreadbot: Thanks man, that's extremely helpful feedback. I hadn't heard that before you mentioned it, but now I do. I'll experiment with some other pianos and maybe some deadly spooky organ too....
