ZiX is an acclaimed cross-cultural heavy metal band who just finished working on their debut album, “The Tides of the final war,” with 7x Grammy-winning producer and mixer Steve Thompson (Metallica,Yngwie, Kiss, Anthrax, Madonna, Guns 'N Roses, and KORN, to name a few).
ZiX hails from Beirut, Lebanon, and was formed by bassist Ziad Bardawil to make a global statement for heavy metal music and protest its oppression in many parts of the world, including in particular the Mid-East and Lebanon.
In 2010, Ziad joined forces with power metal vocalist Maya Khairallah, but due to political and economic upheaval, their ZiX project was put on hold when Ziad was compelled to leave the country. All the while, Ziad and Maya searched in vain for a guitarist and drummer.
When attending the Wacken Open Air festival in Germany, Ziad was introduced to Argentinian guitar guru and technical master Juan Carrizo. Communicating though emails and Skype, Mid-East to South America, their work on a demo ZiX EP commenced immediately.
In 2012, Ziad, Maya and Juan completed the self-produced demo "The War Whore." Right away, the single impacted metal musicians and fans throughout the world. On the strength of that single song and ZiX’s mission in perilous territory, the great defender of the faith Metal Hammer Magazine voted and embraced ZiX also as “one of the top 100 defenders of the faith.”
In her review for Metal Master Kingdom, metal music journalist Kelly Kruel extolled the virtues of the band thusly: "’The War Whore’ is a whirlwind of talent and an explosion of Metal Magic. It’s a sexy collision of sounds mimicking the powers of the Metal Gods."
ZiX is melding of molten metal orchestration:
- It’s fronted by the magical vocal of Maya Khairallah, whose powerful, operatic voice invokes mesmerizing imagery that form the background for her lustful moods and mocking tunes.
- As if thundering down a volcano on a chariot, Juan Carrizo grips you with dense, atmospheric melodies and well-crafted tunes that haunt your soul long after the music is gone.
- Ziad Bardawil shreds his Bass hard in the background like a unstoppable tank, with his oriental-influenced massive sections holding all pieces tightly knit together in the manner of the great Steve Harris of Iron Maiden.
ZiX has been featured in a wide range of metal-related media - magazines, webzines and blogs - all offering high and promising reviews of the debut EP and heralding his brave, revolutionary project. On the harsh Metal Archives reviews, ZiX scored 78% against the normal 60% for still very good metal bands.
All of this grabbed the attention of 7x Grammy-winning American music producer Steve Thompson and his manager, Steve Eggleston, of Eggman Global Artists, who now manage the band worldwide.
