On his way home from one of his favorite arcade haunts, Alkali runs into an out of breath girl holding what appears to be a box of donuts. She gets up with a grin and calmly fixes her hair and skirt, looking at the bewildered Alkali still on the ground. "Watch yourself kid..." she says as she brushes past him and then continues to sprint down the narrow alleyway and around the corner out of sight. Alkali thought she couldn't have been more than a couple years older than him... but still, something inside him was attracted to her commanding nature. He gets up just as he is grabbed by another panting person, a shopkeeper. As he struggles to catch his breath he asks Alkali if he saw a girl come this way, and tells him she's a thief whos been terrorizing all the local shops. Alkali looks at the man who looks back at him in desperation... he says no. The shopkeeper breathes a heavy sigh and curses under his breath. "Thanks anyway kid...", he says and walks back to his shop. He only said no because BlackStar said "let her get away, she's hot. Besides that it's not like she robbed a bank.. it's just donuts." His logic made sense to him after all, they do share a body in a way. Alkali thought nothing of it for the next few days until he ran into the girl again after marching band practice.
She was outside the the west wall of the school smoking, and grinning the same way he remembered from that day. But she noticed him first, "Hey kid!" she said, gesturing him over. Alkali walked over hesitantly, she was much prettier than he remembered, and he wasn't too good with talking to girls. She asked his name. He said "Alkali ma'am". 'Ma'am', he thought, 'what is she, my grandma?'. She looked confused, "I'm not nearly old enough for that ma'am crap yet. I'm only 19." As he feverishly apologized she felt something from him, something that felt like what she used to be, but the potential to be what she is now. She relished this idea. That was the first day Alkali ran with Rin. After that, everyday after school she would be there waiting for him. Some days they would walk and she would tell him about how she dropped out of school and how useless it really is, or how she lives without a care in the world, or how everything in this world within arms reach is for the taking. Somedays she would take him into the city to do graffitti, and some she would take him to stores and test out his shoplifting ability. Alkali always worried about what he was doing, if he would get caught, and what he was becoming, but BlackStar never did. So Alkali usually let him take over for these activities, and he loved it. He loved Rin. Who knows if Rin loved Alkali at that moment, or if she even knew if she did, but she was having fun, and that's what mattered to her.
