C90 Azimuth Downhill Roll (disquiet0049-deckduet) by Zedkah published on 2012/12/09 22:53:16 +0000 C90 Azimuth Downhill Roll (disquiet0049-deckduet) This recording is an entry to the disquiet junto project 49 asking for participants to record a track synching with the sound of a tape deck motor- mixing both sounds together at roughly equal volumes. Trying a mic against a couple of the cassette players I have there was barely any noise from pressing play so I opted for the sounds of fast forwarding and rewinding the tape. Didn’t have time to get a contact into the guts of the machine. I recorded 4 tracks ffwd and rwnd off of each deck. Having lost points failing to clock any kind of BPM my accompanying music attempts to accompany the rushing and whirring of the tape. There are two tracks of steel bearings circulating around a metal chocolate tin lid. Two tracks of a Brass rod being hammered on e.guitar strings with v.fast trem and short delay repeats. Also one rhythm track, made from the clunk of the NAD6220 when it stops playing this is edited, looped and delayed . Never had a deck with ‘azimuth’ control but it is the ultimate boffin word in tape land. Very pleased with the final mix.
