axis by Yuanfan Yang published on 2016-04-04T13:27:32Z 'axis' is based on a seven-note serial row, which is rotated, transformed and twisted ‘on its axis’. Whilst the piece showcases the virtuosic, musical and orchestral capabilities in the violin and piano, it is also very emotional, and the momentum of the piece is always moving forwards, leading to a climatic and passionate recitative at the end. In the unbarred passages, all accidentals apply to their adjacent notes only. Allow a sense of freedom throughout the piece. This performance was recorded live in the Carole Nash Hall at Chetham's School of Music. VIOLIN - Callum Smart PIANO - Yuanfan Yang Genre Classical
