On the cold ground [disquiet0431] by ymeynard published on 2020-04-04T04:37:38Z My source track was https://soundcloud.com/red_robin/disquiet0430b-solitary-ensembles-x-2-unexpected-descent-chalkwalk-tlr from Tristan Louth-Robins. I was very intimidated when I listened to the track and at first didn't feel I could add anything of value to it. I decided to overcome my fears, but it was clear I was going to be understated about it, especially since I only work with virtual synths. I didn't want to drown the lovely source material in sawtooth waves. So I added a sedate drum part, some pitched percussion (thumb piano and bells), and a whistling patch from the Reason Grain instrument. The thumb piano and whistling were played instead of sequenced, for a more organic feel. I wish I could have done the same for the drums, which I fear are too mechanical. I change up the drum rhythms during the break and add a percussion loop. In the final section the rhythm pares down to very little though I bring back the bells for contrast. + + + More on this 41st weekly Disquiet Junto project, Disquiet Junto Project 0431: Solitary Ensembles x 3 — The Assignment: Complete a trio by adding a track to an existing duet by two other musicians — at: https://disquiet.com/0431/ More on the Disquiet Junto at: https://disquiet.com/junto/ Subscribe to project announcements here: http://tinyletter.com/disquiet-junto/ Project discussion takes place on llllllll.co: https://llllllll.co/t/disquiet-junto-project-0431-solitary-ensembles-x-3/ There’s also a Disquiet Junto Slack.
