An Obvious Lesson [disquiet0474] by ymeynard

The random number generator selected Michel Banabila's With Orphaned Loop (https://soundcloud.com/michel-banabila/with-orphaned-loop-disquiet-0473-placebo-effect-2-of-3?in=disquiet/sets/disquiet-junto-project-0473).

I felt the piece sounded great already, but there was still room for percussion. I used something spare that I thought fitted the rhythms of the piece, and then introduced small variations, never more than one sound at a time. I added a granular plugin called Zerone which ramps up and then back down to zero in a slow rhythm. There is also a techno percussion loop slowed down to half-time that plays occasionally.

All of that work was maybe a bit too subtle, so as a last step I added a vocal sample from a public domain short film. Using it just once would have felt perhaps too arbitrary, so I dropped it in a second time.
