It has.... raisins (disquiet0346) by Ya Wha? published on 2018-08-20T21:18:10Z Disquiet Junto Project 0346: Drum Machinations The Assignment: Make a beat with new drum machine sounds provided by other Junto musicians. So based on last week's submissions by other Junto members, I chose the first one that spoke to me... Was also the first one I listened to... By the talented Hypoid (@Hypoid). Using the beats from the start of his Torment Kit track (who couldn't love a kit called Torment?), built all the drum parts. Added some synth half-way thru - BeepStreet Dagger (an unknown future classic, from the same man that does the wonderful Sunrizer), FXpansion Strobe 2 (slowly becoming a go-to), and Z3TA (my perennial favourite). SoundToys FilterFreak2 used to effect some of the hits, as stabs thru the track, and a bit of Ableton's stock Saturation device to up the energy, into the Ozone Limiter on the master bus - this track likes being loud and raucous! Hypoid's track: https://soundcloud.com/hypoidsound/torment-kit-disquiet0345 Thanks Hypoid for the inspiration! Hope you enjoy! I usually build up drum parts in multiple clips - I find it far easier to get variation that way - sequenced either by Follow Actions, or just by triggering clips. Varying clip lengths too - so, maybe a quarter-bar with a single midi note in it for fast hats (you can hear that happen in the machine-gunning low tom in the track), then some 16-bar clips with a cymbal variation at the very end. Choose relative primes then for clip lengths, and you have insta-polyrhythms. Stick a the Velocity midi device then in front of the Simpler track hosting the drum hits, or as an insert on the drum clip tracks, for velocity variation - works particularly well on multisampled instruments, a kind of randomised round-robin (i.e. not round-robin!). 2018-08-21T12:00:17Z
