Dammit, I’m mad! (disquiet0344) by Ya Wha? published on 2018-08-07T01:20:23Z Disquiet Junto Project 0344: Careful Symmetries The Assignment: Explore palindromes in musical form. I usually do the Junto over two nights. I only had tonight to do this Junto, so I brought this together pretty quickly tonight, starting late in the evening! All elements (midi and audio) play forward, then play backwards / in reverse, to make lots of little mini pallindromes. The Arrangement itself is pallindromic - as you can see in the track art, stuff comes in and is pulled back out in order - a LIFO (last in, first out) Stack datastructure. Five instances of AAS String Studio - four patches from the new Stranger Strings pack I picked up earlier tonight. Four vocal loops from a pack by Ghosthack. A loop from Glitchmachines Chimera, a loop from Origin Sounds Elysian, and a loop from Iris 2 factory bank of wavs. Finally, a Drum Rack from the Core Ableton 10 pack Skitter and Step called Pico Dilly Kit. Hope you enjoy... The title is my attempt at a pallindromic track title, mirroring the arrangement structure... Yeah, like your own this week, I went for mirroring in the arrangement, and each phrase itself is palindromic too. I wanted a non-word / hummed vocal element that I could reverse without sounding weird, because it worked well on the last palindrome junto I did.. Delighted you enjoyed! 2018-08-08T23:17:02Z Comment by Hypoid Well played! Nice choice of instruments and introductions, but adding the vocals, that tipped it over to brilliance! The human element can add so much :-D 2018-08-08T23:06:08Z Comment by Ya Wha? @gbel: Thanks man! Yeah I automated the "Chance" parameter on the "Random" midi note device in Ableton before the drum rack, to add some sonic interest to the hits. I felt it needed something at that point :-) It kinda breaks the "mirroring", but the midi notes are the same, and the random device adds sonic interest in the hits that are played.. 2018-08-08T09:17:11Z Comment by Gbel - lifesonance Great stuff! I felt the madness though chaos right in the middle of the track, very decent bass line in the beginning 2018-08-08T02:37:50Z Comment by Daniel Diaz @yawha: yes, that make sit even more ghosty, unreal yet sound organic, but weird to do for a singer. Not so for a ghost singer I guess. 2018-08-07T13:14:14Z Comment by Ya Wha? @daniel-diaz: What was most interesting to me, is the vibrato that the singer adds to the end of her phrase - that's 'easy to do' - alot of singers do it naturally. But, reverse the loop, where the vibrato fades out into a "non-vibrato" note - that's hard to do, and ends up sounding very operatic... 2018-08-07T13:02:29Z Comment by Ya Wha? @daniel-diaz: Thanks very much Daniel, I like the ghosts comment... 2018-08-07T13:00:07Z Comment by Daniel Diaz Great one, fulfilling the challenge palindrome/symmetry perfectly. Symmetric ghosts. 2018-08-07T12:53:15Z
