‘Pull Me Away’ features dark atmospheres and haunting piano melodies that force us to take a deep journey inward, manipulating the mind and evoking feels with its complex layering. In Scatz’ unique fashion, he adds layer upon layer to this progressive song, as if it is a lotus unfolding one petal at a time and blooming in your auditory cortex. The song constantly builds and evolves, with no two sections sounding the same (a common motif in Scatz’ musical art), and the effect is mesmerizing, to say the least. Psychonauts and explorers of consciousness will feel their Third Eyes vibrate with the infinite wisdom of the cosmos, and their dry, crusty Pineal Glands will erupt from their calcium shells, flooding their brains with delicious dimethyltryptamine.
Here’s what Scatz, aka Mitch Bilodeau, has to say about his new song:
“In ‘Pull Me Away,’ like many of my other original works, I attempt to evoke a sense of movement and progression. In that right, this song plays out much like a cerebral narrative -an immersive atmosphere which continues to sway and manipulate.
‘Pull Me Away’ begins with the sounds of mid-summer, night time insects I recorded in my native region of New England. While the nature of this song plays on the nuances of a somewhat darker theme, I initially wanted to ground the listener in a tangible, nocturnal atmosphere rather than a perpetually black one. As the track progresses we are lifted up and outward to a more stellar space -one of wonder, enormity, humility. And then finally transitioning to a more infinite/internal space -one of longing, of memory, and balance. As for the outro, I couldn’t help slipping in one little smash of funk and whimsy.”
Scatz consistently creates musical art that expands one’s consciousness, and this one will take you even deeper into the void, especially if you close your eyes and fully surrender to the sound waves. ‘Pull Me Away’ is a reminder of the profound power that music (and art in general) can have.
Oh, and Scatz created the artwork himself, which is an absolutely perfect visual representation of the song. And because I know you’re all wondering: Yes, he is an alien. It’s as if an alien race was programming Mitch for his life on Earth as a ‘human’, but they had a calculation error in the creativity calibrations and accidentally gave him way too much artistic ability. Your secret is out, Mitch.
As I’m sitting here writing this description, I’m filled with joy and moved nearly to tears, as I realize how fortunate I am to have such talented artists on this WUMP roster. In this saturated industry full of nauseating tedium, I am privileged to be surrounded by a roster of true artists whose music is pure creative expression full of depth and meaning. They put in the work, day after day, and pour their hearts and souls into every song we release on this label/collective, and for that reason, I believe they have created a league of their own. Thanks for the support, everyone. This community has truly become a family, and we love each and every one of you for listening and supporting.
