Pastor Brady Blade Sr & The Hallelujah Train Interview on WPKN 89.5-FM by WPKN Community Radio published on 2018-09-28T17:37:59Z Host: Jim Motavalli The Hallelujah Train featuring Pastor Brady Blade Sr., Daniel Lanois, Brian & Brady Blade Jr. and Zion Baptist Church Choir From the Quick Center: Get ready for a supercharged blast of authentic Southern gospel when Pastor Brady Blade Sr. and his 80-year-old thunderbolt voice pulls his “Hallelujah Train” in for its Connecticut debut. A born devotee and natural musician, Blade Sr. preached his first sermon in 1953, and he has been the pastor at Zion Baptist Church in Shreveport, LA, since 1961, where he began elevating his praise with song. His unique style worship soon became The Hallelujah Train - a public service broadcast that brought song and faith to the region throughout the 1970s. A live revival was orchestrated in 2009 at the behest of Blade Sr.’s son - famed jazz drummer Brian Blade - who organized a concert after discovering recordings from the original show had been erased. In an interview with Connect Savannah, Brian describes the show as “completely a musical experience.” Brian and Brady Jr., who is also a renowned jazz drummer, convinced their father to bring the show on the road. Today it features Blade Sr.’s booming, soulful voice, an ensemble that includes the pastor’s 20-strong congregational choir, guests like longtime friend and collaborator Daniel Lanois (guitarist and producer of U2 and Bob Dylan), and his sons, whose deft rhythms round out the ensemble with some of the best percussive skill in the world.
