Eugène & Mortimer (E&M) return to Tipsy Bar. Jean Baptiste (Eugène) has left the UK but Mortimer carries on the moniker for now. He will be joined by guest DJ Dan Harrington (Modernista Records).
About Dan Harrington
An experienced DJ, Dan plays House, Techno, Balearic, Disco and all the other bits in between. His label, Modernista, is an independent record label for dance music of all kinds...He, along with Paul Bennett and Chris Blaik hatched the idea of creating the Modernista record label in Athens, some point in the late 00s. having met many years ago, through a shared love of music, they decided the time was now right for us to pitch in with their own imprint. A simple plan. Make music that sits outside the slipstream of the latest hyped style or micro-genre + release it in lovingly constructed, high quality packaging.
Modernista has already two quality releases under its belt - the excellent Modone and Modtwo - both produced by Paul Bennett. Dan's set at Tipsy on the 12th April will draw inspiration from newer and older renderings of dance music - from deep to acid and certainly beyond. His latest set - the third instalment in a series called "Small Worlds" - was recorded in November 2013 and is could possibly an indication of some of the records Dan might play on this occasion! Eugène & Mortimer arrived in the UK over three years ago by way of Canada and France, teaming up shortly afterwards.
Hosting their monthly Adult Contemporary nights in Dalston's Moustache Bar, they played house and disco every month to an avid crowd, often featuring local talent, such as revered UK House producer and DJ, KRL (Wolf Music).
In 2012, they began collaborating with Ubermax Records who held a residency at the Dalston Superstore, a club certainly known for its infamous sweaty basement, but also for programming some of the best House DJs out there. Thanks to this collaboration, Will and Jean-Baptiste were fortunate to mix alongside up-and-coming and established talents of the underground electronic scene, such as OOFT!, Hunee, Justin Miller, Medlar, DJ Steaw, and Cottam. As Ubermax residents, they held other gigs in various other venues across London, sharing line-ups with Oskar Offerman, Sei A, Moodymanc and Kevin McKay.
