Mountain Heart by WHYY Public Media published on 2013/04/25 17:05:36 +0000 http://www.whyy.org/oncanvas At first listen, Mountain Heart sounds like a traditional good old blue grass band, but it only takes a few more notes to realize that's just their roots showing. Their sound is an energetic, almost hand crafted combination of a variety of American music streams, from rock and folk to jazz and country, from soaring instrumentation to heartfelt lyrics. // Two of the original band members who started playing together in 1998 -fiddler and vocalist Jim Van Cleve and banjo player and singer Barry Abernathy- have weathered changes in their personnel to bring new talented musicians who are giving "Mountain Heart" its unmistakable sound. Mountain Heart performed at the Zoellner Arts Center at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and is featured tonight on WHYY-TV's On Canvas. Elisabeth Perez Luna reports.
