First of all, forget the 3rd person nonsense... I am writing this and I'm not trying to act like I have somebody doing anything for me because music remains a hobby so it can continue to be my secret love affair and passion.
I started piano lessons at age 9... had many pop influences but was classically trained and continued with guild, competing in my latter years of grade school. Hence, music has always played a huge role in my life... mostly just to get through life. Every major event of my life has a soundtrack... a song on repeat... and score, an album... I can't imagine what life would be like without it.
Although DJ’ing began as a hobby to pass the time in pharmacy school, it quickly became something I wanted to do more and more, perfect every chance I had... lunch breaks, study breaks... it was the perfect release.
In November of 2009 I began my journey with two belt-driven turntables loaned to me by DJ Pinky along with a few crates of friends’ breakbeat records (circa ‘99-’03). During spring of 2010, I was asked to play my first gig but first I had to come up with a DJ name. I started DJing just after Halloween in 2009, and my Halloween costume was a sexy rendition of The White Rabbit…. Sure, why not.
Since that gig, I’ve played parties at clubs and underground venues in and around the Atlanta area, including some bookings in AL. 2013 was a busy year for me, with roughly 30-40 gigs, all the while toggling the most vigorous courses thus far in pharmacy school. Let’s just say I didn’t sleep that much that year ;) such a challenge but loved every second of it. A highlight for me as a DJ was opening for DJ Icey at Mix Ultra Lounge in Auburn, AL that year. Fast forward to the present moment, where music has taken a brief pause to allow me to get settled into my "real job" as a pharmacist. And when I say brief… well, let’s just say I retrieved most of my piano music from my parents’ home over the holidays… and it’s been way too long since I’ve DJ’d and even longer since I’ve hashed it out on the ivories… looking forward to 2015.
My overall style infuses an eclectic blend of breakbeats with techno, minimal and house, using a BPM of between 125-140 as a rough guide. My style of breaks range from electro to dnb-influenced, florida to nu skool. My multigenre sets include anything from dubstep to trap to electro house and occasionally dropping some drum & Bass. And then there is techno, deep house, and tech house... let's just say there's nothing that truly gets me going than a perfectly constructed dark techno set or a trippy mental deep house set, and don’t forget the minimal house… sometimes, the weirder the better ☺
Regardless the genre, one thing is certain-- the bass will be heavy and the sound will draw you in. With a love for dark melodies, dirty basslines, and a variety of beats… each set with one goal in mind: to make people dance.
Be sure to join me on my next musical trip down the rabbit hole... check back periodically for more mixes and updates! (I promise, new mixes are coming sooner than later…)
