Joann Jimenez presents... ¡WEPA! The Original Home of Afro-House + Latin Soul Resident DJ / Producer: Antonio Ocasio (Tribal Winds) Coquito, Cigars, Dominoes, Visuals, Roof Deck $10 After 10pm with a Flyer, Print or RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org $15 at the Door Bar 13 (3rd Floor) 121 University Place (between 13th & 14th Street) New York, New York 10003 Take any train to Union Square http://www.wepanyc.com/ http://www.youtube.com/wepanyc http://www.soundcloudnyc.com/wepanyc This celebration is based on Joann and Antonio's Afro-Latino roots, creating "the way it was on the block” vibe they experienced growing up as New York Latinos (Neoyorquinos). Their soundscape incorporates the wide range of their culture’s musical wealth, blending Afro-Cuban, Latino Tribal, Orisha chants and straight up percussive rhythms mixed in with old salsa classics and other lovely sounds that live inside them… house music. ¡Wepa! pays homage to the music that influenced them as youngsters, and celebrates the newer music that echoes it. They incorporate the 'escuela vieja' traditions of a cigar roller, domino table, and tasty coquito. They carefully select and display a visceral experience including video clips of children playing under a ‘johnny pump’ on those hot summer days, famous Latino musician jam sessions, and dance rituals of their ancestors. Their interactive clothesline strung from the ceiling, live percussionists and all their Latino flavor invite your presence. Come dance, laugh and drink the night away, the way it used to and ought to be!
