Thank you so much for downloading my EP! I was really happy with the way it turned out and I was really happy to share it with yall.
I made this mix for for the winter (although in Texas you can hardly call it that). It includes some newish stuff I am working on as well as some hits that I am especially fond of. DL them shits and get and bang it–I'm trying to drop some sunshine on yall while I still can!
1) Unlimited Energy Intro
I am really into fission. I saw this documentary on Nova where Brian Cox basically laid out the fact that the only way to produce anywhere near the amount of energy that we will need as a planet we will have to not only become more energy efficient, but also make some badass fission reactors. A fission reactor is a star in a jar. It's the coolest shit ever.
2) Quiet Nights–Kuhn
Very few songs can sample a Jobim song and make it not suck. It is a difficult thing to flip because it has a lot of character and most people associate Bossa with cheese. This song samples "Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars," which is the English version of Corcovado.
3) Always Runnin–Pharcyde ft. Joni Mitchell
If you know anything about me, then you know that I ride for Joni really hard. It is difficult for me to explain why I love her so much. I think it has to do mostly with the fact that she is, like, Cali babe numero uno and also has a mad overbite, something which I find charming. This beat is from "Just Like This Train." I actually made it on a whim and then ran across the pharcyde acapella accidently and I was all "well duh." Kind of how a lot of my tracks go down, tbh.
4) Baby–Quinteto Ternura
Brazil produced a remarkable amount of girl-groups that sang in block harmonies. I am pretty sure that the most famous of these is Quarteto em Cy who worked with Vinicius de Moraes. Quinteto Ternura I know nothing about, but this version of Baby is pretty different from the other versions. Usually the song is in 6/8–but that is music dork shit, don't worry about that. The authoratitive version is still Gal Costa's, check it on the tubes. This track made me move to Brazil, no joke.
Um, yeah. I actually got the idea for this blend from DJ Nuts' AMAZING Arthur Verocai mix (seriously, educate yourself), but I used a different version of this track. The OG is by Cartier and Brunier, but this one is more on the block harmony tip, so I figured it was more in keeping with the previous track. I like Brazil, can you tell?
6) Neon Beams–Take (ENM's Slow Burn RMX)
This is a remix that I did for the Take remix contest. The original is really good, so it was a pretty tough job. figured that the best way to approach it was to eliminate almost everything, since the original was so dense. I jacked it up to 128bpm and added some shuffle and swampy ambience. I also added a wholly new bassline and chord progression. I might have gone a little overboard with this one, but I am pretty happy with it.
7) Over–Fantastic Mr. Fox
Seriously, what's up with this dude? Everything he touches is fucking magic. I love the sidestick on this track. Usually I hear sidestick/woodblock and a warped vocal and I I think paint by numbers "Future Garage." But this shit is straight fire. But subtle sex fire.
8) The Creator Has a Master Plan–Pharoah Sanders
Jazz was my first love and although I grew up on bop and hard bop, I have to say as I get older I have really started to dig on this astral, new age free shit. I am thinking of starting a sex commune in Ojai where we all play pan pipes and have orgies if anyone wants to roll.
That's it folks! I hope you like this one. Jam this in the pad and get them pheromones a-flowin, preparing yourself for the next month. I am thinking of doing some 90's "I don't give a shit" house on the next mix. You'll have to wait and see.
