the hymn of acxiom (1st draft demo) by Vienna Teng published on 2012-11-10T07:24:45Z UPDATE: Official album version now available for download! Pre-order the album and immediately get two other tracks, "Close to Home" and "In the 99." *** Sacred music for the age of Big Data. This was inspired by listening to Morten Lauridsen pieces, using Acxiom reports in my internship work this summer, and reading election news coverage, especially the Obama campaign's use of analytics and Nate Silver's Five Thirty-Eight blog. Recorded using the VoiceTone Harmony-M. I actually wish it didn't sound so realistic—the idea was to get enough weird robotic artifacts in there to creep you out. *** somebody hears you. you know that. you know that. somebody hears you. you know that inside. someone is learning the colors of all your moods, to (say just the right thing and) show that you’re understood. here you’re known. leave your life open. you don’t have. you don’t have. leave your life open. you don’t have to hide. someone is gathering every crumb you drop, these (mindless decisions and) moments you long forgot. keep them all. let our formulas find your soul. we’ll divine your artesian source (in your mind), marshal feed and force (our machines will) to design you a perfect love— or (better still) a perfect lust. o how glorious, glorious: a brand new need is born. now we possess you. you’ll own that. you’ll own that. now we possess you. you’ll own that in time. now we will build you an endlessly upward world, (reach in your pocket) embrace you for all you’re worth. is that wrong? isn’t this what you want? amen. It can have so many different meanings just by a change of mood. Breathing sound. 2013-12-21T13:33:53Z Comment by David Basden - Composer Amazing! ... and (unfortunately) scarily accurate! 2013-12-05T10:24:01Z Comment by Rob Mitchell 33 Stunning! 2013-11-25T03:48:29Z Comment by Chris Zippel - @the-loose-seals: great 2013-11-01T19:31:28Z Comment by Will Towler Right around here I feel so perfectly betrayed by the song. The construction of the song, the lyrics, all of it, is phenomenal and twisted. 2013-10-14T05:11:44Z Comment by hedealhay The choir nerd in me is so happy right now!!! 2013-10-12T05:44:38Z Comment by imazi643 @ericwhitacre: I double this... 2013-10-08T21:33:21Z Comment by Pleiades Starchild Beautiful.... 2013-09-20T23:12:13Z Comment by Pleiades Starchild Beautiful.... 2013-09-20T23:11:55Z Comment by tgaron So reminds me of Lauridsen's O Magnum Mysterium or O Nata Lux from the Lux Aeterna set...Throw in a bit of some Whitacre too. Absolutely phenomenal. The song really saved me tonight... 2013-08-31T02:41:22Z Comment by Submergency I kept playing this because of the beautiful acapella sound. Then I started really *hearing* the words. It's so beautifully subversive, especially in view of current events! 2013-08-12T23:46:36Z Comment by darkdeer Wo! Who are you?? I had listened to a friends song and was browsing on another page and all of a sudden, I hear a choir of angels. Had to come back here and see who it was. I love your voice, the harmonies. Gorgeous! You have a new fan. 2013-08-09T00:53:25Z Comment by Jing Tie I can feel it speak out from your deep heart, and touched me directly and softly. Thank you 2013-07-22T21:20:49Z Comment by Caroline Hogan 1 I want to be creeped out but...but...it's so pretty 2013-07-03T20:51:29Z Comment by Caroline Hogan 1 Will this be on the new album coming out in September? 2013-07-03T20:50:26Z Comment by Kaigen42 Intellectually, I know I should be disturbed, but this is so beautifully arranged that I can't help but feel elated. Which is itself a profound statement on the power of analytics and marketing. 2013-06-30T00:41:46Z Comment by Jasper Koning Very nice! Could have been a bit more creepier, but very nice build up! Climactic. 2013-06-28T22:12:06Z Comment by Keshlam Is sheet music available, by any chance? I'd love to try getting a few friends together and see if we can do it live. 2013-06-25T16:54:42Z
