Vid Jamnik & the Mediterranean Connection by Vid Jamnik published on 2016-04-25T20:45:18Z Vid Jamnik (vibraphone), Gilad Barakan (guitar), Giuseppe Cucchiara (bass), Jože Zadravec (drums) The core of this Slovenian-Israeli-Italian group are three young musicians studying at Berklee College of Music in Boston. After playing together in various line-ups they joined forces in 2015 for a performance at the renowned Umbria Jazz festival in Italy, as part of an outreach program showcasing Berklee's Jazz Revelation Records during the Berklee Clinics at the festival. Each year, the label releases a compilation record featuring the best student bands and compositions. Gilad, Giuseppe and Vid have appeared on the records both as bandleaders and composers as well as sidemen in the past three years. Joining them was an excellent Slovenian drummer Jože Zadravec, a graduate of the Carinthian State Conservatory in Klagenfurt, Austria. Their performance in Italy was covered in a TV reportage and followed by a tour in Slovenia and Germany, during which the musicians developed a unique, interactive musical rapport, prompting them to keep the project going. The program of the group, consisting of original music and rearranged tunes from the standard repertoire, is tailored by the different backgrounds of the members, both ethnic and stylistic, and their diverse approaches to the music they have in common – jazz.
