GILB'R/ROLLIN/DRUM AND BASS RADIO SHOWS ON NOVA.PARIS 1993/1997 by Versatile Records

My Jungle days! These are some of the recordings of the shows I used to have on Radio Nova between 1995 and 1997/8. The idea of the show was to give a panorama of this style. So I would start with what was called Intelligent Jungle (because it was very intelligent), then a bit of Jump-Up, Hardstep and harder stuff at the end.
When Jungle arrived, it synthetised all I liked in dance music. DJ skills wise it was a lot of fun (cuts, scratch, long mixes, long dramatic breaks). So I dived into it with enthusiasm. Going to London very often to pick up promos (thanks Chris@Vinyl Distribution), sometimes cut dubplates at Music House. The vibe was unreal when I think about it now, with all those famous and less famous DJ’s waiting to cut their dub, so you could hear all the tracks that were playing as it was a tiny place.
For years, I DJed only Jungle. And I loved the energy of it.
At some point (when Ed Rush and Optical arrived) it lost its freshness for me, and became more formulatic. I was also exposed to a lot of other music and I stopped playing Jungle pretty brutally. Actually, until now…
I'm happy to share those with you, especially for the Frenchies for that Nova 90’s vibe and… me talking, olala… I have the feeling I’m listening someone else.
