Verena Marisa is an award-winning German-Brazilian composer, sound artist and instrumentalist.
Verena has composed the score for various feature films starring Senta Berger, Juliane Köhler, Ulrich Noethen, Katja Riemann, Nadja Uhl and other renown German actresses and actors. She has worked repeatedly with directors of national and international reputation, such as Rainer Kaufmann, Max Färberböck and Markus Imboden.
„Operation Zucker“, for which she co-composed the score with LOLA-winning Gerd Baumann, has won the German Television Award and has been nominated for the Grimme Award. Verena has also been a recurring composer for Germany’s most watched and longest-lasting TV series “Tatort”. Out of more than a thousand episodes, nearly twenty have been scored by female composers – four of them by Verena.
In 2018, her orchestral work NEW ERA was premiered at Munich Philharmonic Hall with nearly 3000 spectators. In 2017 she was Composer in Residence at the Whitebox in Munich. Her commissioned work MORPHOLOGY was premiered in the same year at Tonhalle München, with great critical acclaim. She has composed for and worked at the Neukoellner Oper in Berlin as well as Schauspiel Frankfurt, with directors Ersan Mondtag and Sommer Ulrickson.
In many of her works she has participated as an instrumentalist, both in her concert pieces and in her film music, which she often records completely by herself, playing all layers with violin, piano and other instruments.
The past few years were marked by an increasing desire to work on stage as well, not only in the studio. She founded the experimental improv band CLÆNG, which has since appeared at festivals of different genres, and the duo parasights with Konrad Sziedat, a percussionist of household tools and appliances.
As a theremin soloist she has appeared on TV (ca. 3 million viewers), on classical radio and at various German and international festivals, such as Bolzano Film Festival and Wave Gotik Treffen in Leipzig, world's biggest Gothic festival. She is the first musician who has composed an entire solo concert program for this unique instrument, and continues to perform with it at various locations throughout Europe.
Verena is the current winner of the Music Award of the City of Munich (Förderpreis Musik der Stadt München) and has also won the German Film Music Award and the Berlin Opera Award, among others.
