The Gregarious Brain by Vandaveer published on 2016-12-14T18:30:14Z Twelve days. A dozen tracks. More than a little archive digging... Today's installment is the first original track J. Tom Hnatow and I worked on together in a studio setting way back in 2007. I was asked to contribute a tune to a 52-song compilation curated by a small, Vancouver-based record label. I had less than a week to turn it around, so I roped Tom and we dove right in. I pulled most of the lyrics and nearly all of the concept from a NYTimes article about a rare, socially debilitating condition called Williams syndrome. Tom brought over his banjo, but it was his piano playing that surprised me the most that day. The outro was inspired by our shared affinity for Jim Jarmusch and, more specifically, the haunting Neil Young-penned soundtrack to Dead Man. Genre Folk & Singer-Songwriter
