Valerie Shearman
Toronto
For Toronto Native Valerie Shearman singer/songwriter, life has been tough for Valerie, but one thing for sure she is never a quitter.
Steeped in a musical and cultural heritage, from her Grandfathers side a noted fiddler, the late Chester Corbett, he was considered one of the Best Damn Fiddle Players in the world she says”! . An accomplished guitarist, vocalist and songwriter in her own right, Valerie hasn’t always had it easy as life has been full of many twists and turns, however, her stick to it attitude has led her to some great opportunities. Valerie at age 6 finding herself a foster child and separated from her beloved siblings. Valerie was placed in a Foster Home under the care of a loving musical family, the Blairs”, just another coincidental ingredient in the potpourri of life’s mysteries that have led Valerie to her current path as a musical artist. Immersed in music Valerie began to play guitar at the age of 7 and in no time showed promise as a budding songwriter. While at school she caught the attention of producer Terry Shields from the Oral Arts festival of Ontario where Terry recognizing Valerie’s gift encouraged her to perform regularly with the Oral Arts festival on tour, while there, she learned from other musicians and had her first taste of a musical collaboration, the experience would prove truly rewarding then would lead her to multiple recording projects in the future… But later that year she was given the horrible news that her birth Mother was found deceased in a field in Calgary Alberta, another sad truth to Valerie’s story in life. Valerie picked up the pieces so sadly and created a passion through her music that gave her strength and she found the courage to carry on…
Valerie eventually met and married Toronto rocker and lead singer Buzz Shearman of the famed eighties rock band “MOXY” and gave birth to their son Jesse. Happy for one of the first times in her life Valerie found herself on top of the world but sadly, Buzz was killed instantly in a fatal motor cycle accident. Unsure as to where to go from here, many of the music businesses’ finest companies heard Valerie’s story and came together and offered to help Valerie, she then found herself working for companies including Arc Sound Records, Q107fm, A&M Records & Jazz-FM in Toronto and through those years she began to learn the business side of the music business.
Valerie continued to hone her craft as a singer songwriter and guitarist applying some of the great lessons she had learned from her late husband Buzz.. Valerie has never ceased to impress and has now found a course and a direction that will help her realize her dream. Over the time she never forgot her mother that was missing then found. Valerie couldn’t help but hear this kind of story over so many times in the news through other news stories and felt passionate to write a song that was deep in her soul about this terrible but true fact that women go missing and sometimes are never found,!
So she started with a seed of an idea for 10 years and finally found the courage to bring out her feelings about her story she hide for so long and now to bring awareness about this cold fact that this happens.
This EP self titled (She’s Everybody’s Daughter) will ignite her audience with her powerful singing Range and wonderful melodies; you wont take a breath til her song is finished!! With Valerie’s bold Spirit she Plans on so much more and I’m sure you will remember her voice once you hear her!
