An Intimate Conversation With All My Friends. by Georgia Olivia Barnes

I have always been happiest surrounded by a few of my close friends, in an intimate space, with a glass of wine to fuel a liberal conversation. During the lockdown, I felt myself yearning for intimacy. I was inspired by the concept of a gradual descent into madness that many humans experience in solitary confinement. Without society to constrict abnormal thoughts, who is there to pass scornful judgement when I talk back to my kitchen appliances? As loyal companions, they always run whenever I turn them on. The tap is bubbly, the oven is aggressive, the kettle is hilariously funny. I love to talk to them and make music with them. There is something dangerously dystopian about the concept, but perhaps the danger associated with it is what spurs me to talk with them more frequently.
