Elocution: The Life of Richard Berry Harrison by Jeff Culbert published on 2021-03-16T05:31:05Z Walter Borden plays Richard B Harrison (1864-1935), a Black actor from London Ontario who became the biggest star on Broadway in the early 1930s. The solo play has Harrison giving an account of his life story, and reciting some of the poetry and plays that sustained his career as a travelling performer. His big break on Broadway came at the age of 65, when he took on the role of God in the Biblical extravaganza 'The Green Pastures'. He performed that play for the rest of his life - over 1600 performances - and appeared on the cover of Time Magazine shortly before his death in 1935. This project was supported by the City of London and the London Arts Council. www.jeffculbert.ca Genre audio play
