Here are a few tips for preparing to isolate: Think about who you can ask for support. Talk to family, friends and neighbours NOW about how you can support each other if one household has to isolate. Make sure you have enough essential food, medication and household items to last a few days at home. This includes items like painkillers, prescription medicines or nappies. Plan how you would get supplies once in isolation by knowing how to use online supermarket shopping or finding someone who can shop and deliver items to you. Make sure you have alternative arrangements for people or pets who rely on you for care. What support you can get while isolating? If you don't have a friend, neighbour or family member who can help with food or other essential items while isolating, the Victorian Government and other organisations can help. You can get emergency relief packages with basic food and personal care items. To request one, call the Coronavirus Hotline on 1800 675 398. Press 0 for an interpreter and ask for food relief support. Relief packages have enough basic food and personal care items for a four-person household for two weeks. If you have a larger household, you can request extra additional packs. Nappies, baby formula, sanitary items and pet food can be provided if requested. Food relief is available for your cultural or dietary needs. Local charities in your area may also offer food support. You can search for charities near you online through Ask Izzy, using your postcode or suburb name. Visit askizzy.org.au If you lose income because you have to isolate you could be eligible for financial assistance. To find out what support you can get go to www.coronavirus.vic.gov.au/support or call the Coronavirus Hotline on 1800 675 398 COVID positive plan It is a good idea to have a simple plan for what to do if someone in your household, gets COVID-19. If you need medication you need to think about how to get your scripts filled or renewed and how to get medication paid for and delivered. Also, if you need hospital treatment care for children and pets will need to be organised. So, make arrangements with a friend, neighbour or family member in advance. If you need advice about any symptoms, it is important you have a doctor or medical professional you can speak to. If you don't have a regular local doctor, ask friends and family for a recommendation or search online using services such as Healthdirect Australia, www.healthdirect.gov.au OR HealthEngine www.healthengine.com.au or HotDoc www.hotdoc.com.au You can also call NURSE-ON-CALL anytime on 1300 60 60 24. Other ways to look after yourself while isolating If someone in your household has COVID-19, consider wearing a mask indoors and try to remain 1.5metres or two big steps away from them. This will help prevent you getting it too. Isolation can be tough, especially if you're worried about your health or the health of others. If you’re having a difficult time or are feeling overwhelmed, you can call 1300 375 330 to get support through your local Mental Health & Wellbeing Hub. It is important to tell families and friends you’re isolating, so they can offer support. Talk to them by phone or video call, but NOT in person.
