For many, their most intimate relationship with a pine tree is that vaguely pine-shaped air freshener hanging from their car's rear-view mirror. Remember them? And how they reeked more of "pine-sol" than of the pines of the forest?! Today on Routes & Branches & Beyond we celebrate the pine tree in music. I have old-timey country music from hip city folks, homestead homesickness, the solace of the banjo-filled pine cabin, Zydeco trail rides, government-commissioned folk songs (your tax dollars at work!), Brechtian cabaret folk, edgy mountain Irish, strutting Cajun, and bluegrass jam bands.
