SYMPOSIUM, Maria Walcher 2017 by Maria Walcher published on 2017-10-13T08:05:36Z What is the role of ‘forgetting’ in our society? How is the aspect of forgetting approached in particular by the field of cultural theory and literature and which associations are there in the context of dementia? A ‘staged symposium‘, one voice moving into the other, creating a fictional dialogue that interweaves various aspects of ‘forgetting‘. The divers are placed on four benches around the fountain in the cathedral square. Whenever a visitor picks up one of the headphones, he/she moves into the position of the respective speaker and becomes part of the symposium. A collage of text fragments of: Sebald: Austerlitz; Proust: In Swanns Welt; Borges: Der Unsterbliche; Aleida Assmann: Forms of Forgetting; Nietzsche: Vom Nutzen und Nachteil der Historie für das Leben; Adorno-Benjamin: Briefwechsel; Benjamin: Über den Begriff der Geschichte; Helga Rohra: TrotzDem; and interviews.
