Dizziness (including vertigo) affects about over 20% of adults yearly in larger studies within the general population. Patients experiencing dizziness often fear the worst and stop at nothing to find a way to stop the spinning. The good news is that most causes for dizziness or vertigo are able to be managed by a vestibular therapist, a physical therapist who specializes in treating vertigo. Vestibular therapy, when done right, can be highly effective at resolving vertigo, or in chronic cases, provide strategies that help patients manage their condition In this podcast episode, we discuss the key differences between dizziness and vertigo, the common types of vertigo that vestibular therapists are able to manage, types of vertigo that vestibular therapists do NOT manage, how vertigo is diagnosed, and what to expect when undergoing treatment for vertigo.
