Ep. 71 - Dr. Max Paquette - Run by the Numbers by Smart Athlete Podcast by Solpri published on 2020-09-23T13:16:28Z Today I sit down with Dr. Max Paquette who has a PhD in biomechanics and is currently an associate professor at the University of Memphis. He has been part of multiple research studies that focus on improving runners performance. If you are relying on distance to determine how you perform in your training, this is the day that will make you stop doing it moving forward. Dr. Max shares a lot of knowledge about why distance isn't the best measure of stress load and what are the ways to measure your performance. He has coached his wife as a pro runner and through this, it made him better analyze how an athlete could better assess their performance. It is important that you constantly assess how you perform from when you get started until today as it will make you realize what has been working and what's not with the training you are doing. I ask him if there is currently or will be in the future - a technology that can provide a stress metric to runners and he answers it clearly from his point of view as a scientist which I think is very accurate (hint: RPE). Lastly, he shares a simple but helpful thought about how to get into long term success in running. Genre Sports
