12.8.22 Veterans for Peace Welcome Cindy Piester to give us the real story about COP27 by Veterans for Peace THE HECTOR BLACK CHAPTER published on 2022-12-06T19:26:15Z Cindy Piester, a member of VFP Climate Crisis and Militarism Project, the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, and decades-long peace and justice activist, joins the show after just returning from COP27 in Egypt. Cindy shares her insights into what good (and there were some) and not-so-good (and there was a lot)came out of COP 27. She tells us that for the first time militarism and the climate was not totally ignored, but still, COP27 did nothing to reduce fossil fuels. Genre News & Politics Comment by LeftyMathProf You omitted the most crucial topic: Unless we END CAPITALISM, our progress on climate will be too little too late, and we'll also get no closer to ending war, poverty, lies and other problems. If we continue with the same socioeconomic system, it will continue producing the same awful results.||Most climate activists are not mentioning capitalism, because they don't see how it is crucially connected to climate (and other problems). They think we have a democracy and rational governments.||We DON'T have a democracy. Gilens and Page (2014) proved statistically that, regardless of elections, we get public whatever public policies the rich want.||And the governments of the world are NOT rational. They don't plan for humanity or the distant future. Each politician is thinking, "I don't want to lose my house, I need to make a short-term profit, to stay in power one more day."||How will we end capitalism? Well, get everyone saying what I said above. 2022-12-06T23:53:25Z
