Animation Grown Up- Panel on Adult Animation by AG Animationsfilm published on 2019-12-18T22:25:07Z Listen to the interesting and inspiring panel discussion on adult animation hosted by AG Animationfilm(German Animation Association) during DOK Leipzig on November 1st, 2019 in Leipzig. In the 1990s, American series such as South Park, The Simpsons or American Dad lured young people and adults to TV screens. Now, it’s Netflix that attracts this target group with shows like BoJack Horesman or Disenchantment. Critics are also describing the recently released series Undone as a ground-breaking and genre-bending adult animated comedy drama series. Trailer UNDONE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8kW2LI19K4 Animation for adults in mainstream platforms and packages may come as a surprise to audiences, but comparing it with animated short films or the works of up-and-coming talents and students, it is clear that there are more animations for adults on offer than for children. These animation productions often deal with mature topics, philosophical or political issues. They are experimental and wild and very rarely cute. However in Germany it is children’s animation that still rules the distribution streams. AG Animationsfilm, the German Animation Association, will discuss this overlooked subject in Germany with the director of Undone, local German producers and representatives of VOD platforms and TV channels, looking for new inspiration and models for our industry.
