Greg Cochran Part 2 by Future Strategist published on 2017-05-23T02:13:40Z https://westhunt.wordpress.com/ http://amzn.to/2rvrlQm Genre Science Comment by James Bowery A prize for lossless compression of social data could serve to advance the social sciences just as did the Longitude rewards advance navigation. This prize would:1) Append a wide range of social data into a single data set to be compressed, and 2) Incrementally reward those who discovered ever-smaller Kolmogorov programs for that data. Given the enormous amount of raw computation power made available by Moore's law, it seems the time is ripe for a prize of this kind to help bring needed integration in, hence integrity to the social sciences. Since most political discourse compares, or at least critiques, various social theories, a contest that brings them into unbiased commensurability would likely elicit great interest and funding, and do much good. 2017-05-25T18:08:05Z
