Kashmir and Kashmiris are undergoing a siege. In recent weeks, Kashmir has witnessed killing of more than 50 and an estimated 3500 have been injured under the pretext of crowd control by the Indian armed forces, unarmed civilians in the hands of Indian forces, and large scale protests against Indian rule. Why the recent upsurge in popular protests and state violence? Is this connected to the rise of majoritarian Hindu chauvinism In India? What is Pakistan's role in this? The panel will discuss various aspects of the ongoing crisis in Kashmir. She is the author of Kashmir in the Crossfire (1996), Kashmir in Conflict (2000, 2003, 2010) and Afghan Frontier (2003 & 2010), having travelled widely in the region. Schofield has an MA in Modern History from the University of Oxford and was the Visiting Alistair Horne Fellow at St Antony's College, Oxford 2004-5. Dr. Nitasha Kaul is an Assistant Professor of Politics and International Relations at the Centre for the Study of Democracy at the University of Westminster in London. She is a Kashmiri novelist, academic, poet, economist, artist who lives in London. Prof. Dibyesh Anand, Head of Department of Politics and International Relations at the University of Westminster. He has research and political interests in issues of majority-minority relations as well as stateless nations in China and India. Ms. Mehroosh Tak is a PhD scholar at SOAS. She is from Kashmir and represents SOAS Kashmir Solidarity Movement.
