October Podcast - Physiotherapy for displaced people by MedEqualiTeam published on 2021-10-11T10:49:15Z “Often I say to my patient that we are running a marathon, not a one hundred meters race. This metaphor means that a changing of perspective could make a difference in terms of expectation and adherence to therapy. In addition, making a good environment, making a great relationship, planning goals with them and prescribing funny and contextual exercises based on their needs could engage patients in a better way” Physiotherapy plays a huge role in the rehabilitation of displaced people and who have been profoundly traumatised: the conditions in the camp and the life experiences of the refugees– both at home and in their journey to Europe - lead to arise stress, poor quality of sleep, bad feelings, psychiatric disorders like PSTD, depression and anxiety. Sure enough, most of these are seen as factors that contribute to the longevity of the experience of pain even in absence of any injury. Listen our new podcast with Valerio, our physio, and with the witness of one of our patient.
