DPS Morning Announcements | Dulce Leticia Aranda, Newlon Elementary by Denver Public Schools published on 2020-04-24T23:38:53Z (English) Good morning, Denver Public Schools! This is Dulce Leticia Aranda, and I'm a 1st grade ELA-S teacher at Newlon Elementary. I hope you're all staying happy and healthy during this unprecedented time. At Newlon, our students are completely involved in remote learning. Students have been participating in weekly lessons to better their skills and knowledge of reading and writing, phonetics, math, English Language Development, physical education, science, social studies, art, music and even social and emotional learning! Many students have participated in class meetings on Google Hangouts, some with a fun and joyful theme to follow, such as pajama day. During Spring Break, DPS administrators along with the Newlon faculty were supporting and communicating with parents to establish a clear communication path to identify specific needs and abilities related to remote learning. At Newlon, our highest priority is to help our students and parents and continue to nurture the intentional relationships we have with our students and families during this unique time. Our parents maintain constant communication through the Class Dojo and we talk every day about the work students are doing at home. Parents are letting us know about the academic successes of their children every day. We keep our parents informed about remote learning by developing videos on how to log into the Google account and we guide them in the process of joining Google Classroom. "For a successful school year, at Newlon, our values are exemplified with joy, empathy, curiosity, empowerment, perseverance, and harmony.” All of our values are regaining a great importance as we adapt to a new life with remote learning. At Newlon, we're demonstrating empowerment by participating daily in our school activities. We're demonstrating joy by staying in constant live contact with our teachers and classmates! Have a great day, Denver Public Schools, and keep exploring, learning and having fun!
