Dave Flippo from "Planet Flippo"

Pianist, composer, vocalist and leader of "Planet Flippo" - a contemporary jazz quartet from Chicago. After getting a Doctorate in Composition (and world music) and 11 years of school, I took a right turn and began studying jazz in Chicago and moved there and started Flippomusic. We recorded two CD's on Southport Records that featured original world music/jazz fusion (Tendrils of Light and Ganesh). Then I started singing and and recorded two more CD's (WHen the Heart is Strong and Tao Tunes). Tao Tunes was pretty unique and still ties into my interest in other cultures- 18 jazz/Latin/Rock/Ambient/Indianish settings of chapters of the ancient Tao Te Ching. Now we're "Planet Flippo" since my orbit has finally solidified and our last CD was a collection of jazz arrangements of 60's and 70's covers by Hendrix, Bowie, Dylan, Wonder, Mitchel, Cream etc. Still writing new tunes for the next recording project. Our most recent CD "Dedications" is back to instrumental original music (with three covers)and portrays what happens when you offer to write a piece for a fellow musician: you get some unusual and challenging requests.
