Mariano Schiavolini
Sanremo
Aria is the nom d’art of Mariano Schiavolini. The concept and pseudonym were born as a homage to the elements of nature that inspire us to live and create in harmony with our surroundings. Once one has lost touch with nature he is no longer himself. This connection, this bond, is what drives Aria to create masterpieces that often draw a profound inspiration from the natural world.
Of course, this calling is the result of a long musical journey; Aria’s beginnings were much more down to earth. As a key figure in the Italian progressive rock scene, and founding member of the celebrated Celeste (a.k.a. The King Crimson of Italy), Aria honed his craft in the most experimental of genres, while also collaborating with countless artists and producers of his day: Kit Woolven, Nick Griffiths, Pete Hinton, Guy Bidmead, Daniel Boone, Simon Fraser, Dennis Herman, and Will Reid Dick, to name a few.
More recent collaborations resulted as a result of a recent trip to South Africa, where Aria had the pleasure to record with members of the late Makeba’s band, Thuthukani Cele (of Lucky Dube fame) and the world-renowned Soweto Gospel Choir.
In recent years Aria has returned to the fold, turning the music industry on its head with “contaminated” music. With profound lyrical subject matter like the plight of war-time refugees, the devastation of the environment and the tragic disappearance of our planet’s wildlife, he fuses important themes with a melange of musical elements, such as progressive rock, soul, and even full, live orchestras.
In 2016 several grand ensemble pieces were recorded and produced with the world-renowned Soweto Gospel Choir. In an industry saturated with overly-commercialized pop, singers from around the world have lined up to sing Aria’s songs for the substance and prestige they offer.
It brings us great joy to see so many artists who share a passion for the sometimes forgotten, yet so very important things in this world. It brings us even greater joy to share this music with all of Arias fans, so that they can also be inspired.
