EP 11: Syndicator Turned Passive Investor with Lane Kawaoka by Ellie Perlman published on 2018-10-31T07:05:10Z Lane Kawaoka Show Notes Lane Kawaoka was not content with taking a conventional path in life. He went from construction to real estate investing and then decided to make another bold move. Unlike the majority of investors, Lane started out as a syndicator, then turned to passive investing, where he joined other fellow syndicators. Lane shares with us his journey into the investing world and discovering his nontraditional path. Key Points When just starting out, focus on building relationships with other investors in a tactful and respectful way. Being a remote investor is a different skill-set, not easier or harder, it functions in its own way. [didn’t understand this point] Vendors should be treated with respect, but you set expectations and hold them accountable and always follow-up. Building a team is not the same as making friends. If someone is not performing up to the standard, you need to replace them and bring in someone who will meet that standard. If your heart is not in it, it is not worth it. Make connections with other LPs (limited partner) and take your time in asking them questions because you need to trust them. One great thing about syndications is that even if a recession hits, you still have cash flow coming in. Tweetables “Build a relationship.
