Adelaide Presenter: Anja Ali-Haapala Research session 3: Valuing the audience-artist relationship This session will explore value within audience-artist relationships. It focuses on three elements that audience members have highlighted as being valuable to them: the invitation into the artists’ world, authenticity, and the humanness of the artist. The findings that will be presented form part of a larger doctoral research project which studied audience-dancer relationships during open rehearsals by The Australian Ballet and Sydney Dance Company, and the impact that these relationships had on the audiences’ subsequent performance experiences (Queensland University of Technology, 2012-2016). This session ties into increasing industry practices where performance audiences are gaining unprecedented behind-the-scenes access in person and online.
