Stations of the Cross 6 by St. Bartholomew's Royal Wootton Bassett published on 2021-02-18T18:25:38Z The Stations of the Cross - reflections for Lent with St. Bartholomew & All Saints Church, Royal Wootton Bassett. The service is led by our Licensed Lay Minister, Michael Page, and Honor, with original piano music from Sue Jarrett Smith. Could you walk a mile in Jesus’ shoes? The Stations of the Cross bring us closer to Christ as we meditate on the great love He showed for us in His most sorrowful Passion. Pilgrims to the Holy Land have commemorated Christ’s Passion in a similar manner since as early as the Fourth Century A.D. Around the 13th to 14th Centuries the Stations of the Cross developed into a devotion in their own right. The Stations of the Cross provide us with thoughtful material for prayer and meditation. Tracing Jesus’s journey from condemnation to crucifixion increases both our sorrow for our sins and our desire for His help in avoiding temptations and in bearing our own crosses. Meditating on Christ’s passion can help us become more like Him in imitating His virtues of obedience, humility, charity, patience and perseverance. The ‘Stations’ are not the preserve of any one Christian denomination but are prayed by any Christians wishing to trace Jesus’ steps as part of their lenten discipline.
