This is RealTime with Sam Barrett and Joe Torres; we go to Marion L. Steele High School in Amherst, Ohio. Our story is about three girls who took a chance on their creative writing and musical talent. We interviewed these three girls in the sophomore AP English 10 class. Their teacher Mrs. Janet Grissinger gave the class a performance-based project that combines history and the musical Hamilton to create a song, rap, or scene about historical events during the American Revolution time period. Once the projects were done, their class voted on who would represent the class in the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History Pilot Program. The program chose ten schools in the nation to be “excellent performers” that would have the chance to perform their project on Broadway and watch the musical Hamilton; all costs are covered by the program. After they were chosen, we had the chance to interview them about their experience during the process of creating the song that would send them on this once in a lifetime adventure. All songs and music in the podcast were originally composed by us or people in our school.
