UNIVORE is of Nicholas Flandro and David Bachmann. They hail from the Cuyahoga Valley region of Northeast Ohio, and met in high school, during which they embarked on several sound and video projects and first discussed the idea of forming an artistic enterprise.
Twelve years later, while living on Chicago’s west side, UNIVORE completed their first album, CASALE PROJECT, which is a spoken-word collaboration with local Chicago artist Marco Casale. Nicholas Flandro, with a background in video production, produced and directed several music and promotional videos to accompany the album, thus establishing UNIVORE’s interest and capability as something more than a musical entity.
UNIVORE has released seven studio albums, CASALE PROJECT (2010) a spoken-word collaboration with Chicago artist Marco Casale, LOVE LETTERS (2011), BEASTS FROM A SILK WOMB (2013), MYSTERIES (2015) featuring saxophonist Louis Stockwell, TIME CRYSTAL (2017), CONCH (2018), and SYMPATHETIC VIBRATIONS (2020). UNIVORE also completed a 26-minute short film in 2014 called SPECIMEN 318, collaborating on the screenplay and original music, with Flandro directing the film.
UNIVORE has collaborated with several artists over the years on different albums, most consistently working with artist Marco Casale, bassist Bryan Doherty, saxophonist Louis Stockwell, and vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Sagan Jacobson. Sagan and Bryan contribute to this release as well as vocalist Lori LeChien and saxophonist Shea Marshall. Multi-instrumentalist Liam Cloyd has contributed to our album Time Crystal.
UNIVORE has been described as “walking the already thin line between earnest creativity and absurdity so thoroughly that it becomes visible only with a magnifying glass; they somehow manage to maintain sincerity in the process,” but we can’t remember who said that.
UNIVORE loves you.
