Sit and Stare by Ultan Cronin published on 2012/07/16 22:48:50 +0000 26-song set me and Stephen recorded one night in 56 Hazel Park, Galway. All songs were written by us, all 100% live. No animals injured in the making of this recording, nor any meat products consumed during the 3-4 hrs it mus have entailed. I remember there being several pots of tea on the go, maybe a break to watch the x-files, which were the coolest thing going back then. The organ belonged to Stan - belated thanx. Some of the songs obviously suffer from not having a full band behind them. Others are happy as accoustic numbers. In my humble opinion, there's a couple of gems in there. My kids sing 'Off My List' and 'Summer Day' on a regkar basis- both Stephen's songs - I couldn't pay them a greater compliment. Of my own, I rate 'Shane' and 'Recur.' Having spent a couple of days with all this music from my youth buzzing around me, I guess I feel a mix of pride - that we came up with some decent and standable-over tunes - and sadness - that those amazing days are gone forever. I suppose there's a hint of regret in there too. As the oul' Whipping Boy song goes 'What might have been.' Sniff, sniff. Ultan - July 2012, Barrio del Pilar, Madrid.
