UCB News- Faith leaders' public call for Istanbul Convention by UCB News Team published on 2016-12-15T12:39:29Z Britain’s faith leaders are calling on MPs to show their support for a Private Member’s Bill which aims to help prevent violence against women. The Istanbul Convention sets out minimum standards for the Government to respond to this issue, ensuring prevention, protection, prosecution and monitoring. By ratifying the Istanbul Convention, the Government would by law commit themselves to providing women’s services like shelters, rape crisis centres and 24/7 helplines. The bill is to get its second reading in Parliament tomorrow. Actress Emma Watson, who’s also a UN Women’s Goodwill Ambassador, has been showing her support on social media. The Reverend Rose Hudson-Wilkin is the Chaplain to the Speaker of the House of Commons and one of the Queen’s Chaplains. She’s been explaining more to UCB’s Vicky Gibbens.
