Uber Lingua
Uber Lingua is a movement of DJs, Video artists and musicians based in the various cities of Australia, who celebrate and promote the contemporary end of multi-lingual music and culture... Going beyond what is referred to as 'world', modern music forms in diverse languages such as hip-hop, electronic & dub plus a zillion sub-genres and remixed sonic traditions are explored, alongside connected social and cultural movements.
Pulling from their vast archive and network of sounds from around the planet, Uber's DJs drop alternative international sounds including hummpa, baile funk, bhangra, dancehall, reggaeton, kuduro, latino and balkan beats with electro, rock, hip hop and all other genres from regions less traveled... developing a community of international music and culture lovers in the process...
Alongside the many DJs, video performance, live music and trans-cultural dance performance are an essential part of what Uber Lingua does...
DIALECTIC RADIO
Unlike what is perceived as ‘World Music’, Dialectic Radio offers a clean slate of global sounds, free from the ulterior motives of consumerism. Presenting sounds enjoyed today around the planet, Dialectic celebrates diversity and diverse language through music, equally revealing the cutting edge results of the electronic revolution, alongside timeless trax from over our species’ history.
Australia, like a growing list of countries, has a strong trans-cultural makeup. Aside from our indigenous hosts, we are a nation of migrants born from an old world colonial power… Becoming part of what’s referred to as the western world doesn’t have to mean losing culture through assimilation though, nor the unique perception of life diverse linguistic capabilities provide.
Dialectic compliments traditional global music programming with a no holds barred blaze of modern street sounds. For younger listeners affected by the pressures of identity, this provides them the knowledge that stuff done in their mother tongue (and other kids’ mother tongues for that matter) can sound as cool as something made in the mainstream media factories.
Elsewhere on the planet, now liberated with the hand me down technological tools of the first world, the so called ‘third world’ are showing the rest of the world how it’s done with ancient rhythms reworked 21st century style to deliver infectious dance-floor based revelations.
Dialectic is a 2-hour program that flows with a non-stop style where music dominates and talk is limited, allowing the listener to sit back and absorb. The show features predominantly DJ sets alongside interviews & featured tracks from contributors from around Australia and the globe, most of whom are affiliated with the Uber Lingua movement, many of whom speak more than one language, either learned or inherited they can therefore tap into unique musical zones.
Alongside material from Australians, in the past 12 months Dialectic has featured contributions from places such as Mexico, Argentina, Scotland, India, South Africa, Botswana, Costa Rica, Reunion Island, Bulgaria, Brasil, France, Russia, Portugal, Switzerland, Macedonia, Indonesia, Spain, Argentina, Greece, Turkey, Sierra Leone, Israel, Kenya, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Chile, Colombia, Angola, England, Ireland, USA & Wales…
Content for Dialectic is recorded at events, in studios and at supporting radio stations to make it one very vibrant and ever flexible radio project.
Alongside the mother station Edge Radio, DIALECTIC is now available on the Community Radio Network satellite. This is available for capture and re-broadcast by any community radio station in Australia.
Dialectic is now picked up by UGFM Radio Mirrindindi Alexandra & Alpine Radio Mount Beauty in Victoria, 2MCE Bathurst, Bay FM Byron Bay, 2TLC Yamba, Valley Fm Forbes, KRR FM Kandos, Triple U in Shoalhaven/Nowra and 2SER Sydney in New South Wales, 4BCR in Bundaburg and Fraser Coast Community Radio Hervey Bay in Queensland, Tasman FM Nubeena & City Park Radio Launceston in Tasmania, and Radio Adelaide in South Australia... And thats not counting the many community stations that simply pull up the CRN Satellite fader in the studio when they go home each night...
Dialectic is produced and presented by Brendan Palmer (AKA cinco cinco cinco), a multi-faceted media maker, national broadcaster and DJ who has had his fingers in Australia’s cultural pot for over two decades, and (since May 2011) Lisa Greenaway (AKA Lapkat), veteran community broadcaster, producer, spoken word specialist.
