Transgressive North
Edinburgh
Transgressive North is a music and film collective based in Edinburgh, Scotland.
We produce and release arts projects, ranging from music releases, to feature films, to documentaries, to cross-arts multimedia projects. Our recent album releases are Sun Choir and BOATS...
Sun Choir is the critically acclaimed debut album from Transgressive North's in-house orchestral art-pop ensemble, Marram.
Recorded with and for the Light Of Love Children's Choir, the album includes guest collaborations with Jarvis Cocker, doseone (Anticon), Owen Pallett (Arcade Fire), White Hinterland, and Scottish folk singer Margaret Bennett, alongside specially composed lyrics by Scottish writers and poets, including Irvine Welsh, Alexander McCall Smith, Valerie Gillies, and Tom Leonard.
BOATS is a 29-track double album featuring exclusive tracks from Four Tet, Gang Gang Dance, No Age, Dan Deacon, Bear in Heaven, Rustie, Son Lux, YACHT, Califone, Jamie Stewart (Xiu Xiu), Sun Airway, Taken by Trees, Capybara, Deerhoof, doseone, El Guincho, Keepaway, Lucky Dragons, Julian Lynch, Matthewdavid, Max Tundra, Physical Forms, Ramona Falls, The Ruby Suns, rRoxymore, Slanter, A Sunny Day in Glasgow, and White Hinterland. Each artist created their songs using samples of the Light Of Love Children's Choir, originally recorded for Marram's Sun Choir. As a result, BOATS is a diverse and kaleidoscopic concept-album with the children's voices at its core.
