Running Start is a non-partisan 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization created to educate young women about politics and encourage them to be political leaders. Ms. Jackson is a 2015 alum of the Running Start Star Fellowship. Ms. Jackson is an alumnus of Spelman College earning her BA in Political Science and Women’s Campaign School, Yale University. She was the only White House Intern who worked on communications with the Chief of Staff during her term in the Obama White House. As Ms. District of Columbia in the Miss America Organization, she dedicated over 600+ hours of community service to non-profits and DC public education initiatives. She focuses her advocacy on her platform “Behind the Frontline” to aid military children. She has been featured in numerous publications and Former First Lady Michelle Obama’s Joining Forces Campaign. She is the author of a children’s book “CC the Military Kid,” that chronicles her life as a military child through September 11th and beyond college. With advocacy among young people increasing due to recent mass shootings, bullying on the rise, black on black violence etc. It’s only natural only for students to have discussions around issues and want to take action. But, still the question is Why should Black Lives Matter. People of color have been faced with injustices and issues of equality throughout history. From the Constitution that states that All Men are created equal to the Civil Rights movement to the movements of today it has become a time that students be again at the table during these civic engagement discussions and have a VOICE, for we are the leaders of tomorrow.
