Popularly known among her fans as the "Rock Princess and Pop Diva of Bengal", the Bangladeshi teenage rock & pop superstar Tishma is the girl who completely changed the Bangla music scene forever and is the artist who entirely changed and modernised the path for Bangladeshi female singers, with her sensational debut as a child star in 2002. Tishma was the first fully Westernised artist in Bangladesh with her rocking vocals, totally new genres of music, gorgeous fashionable styles, her mind-blowing stage performances & choreography, and her glamorous videos, which were never before seen or heard in Bangladesh before Tishma.
At a time when no one else dared to experiment with music, young rock star Tishma was the girl who dared to introduce so many brand new dimensions to Bangladesh in 2002 when she was only a child artist. She is not only the country's first true Western artist but also the first female composer, English singer-songwriter, rapper, pianist/keyboard-player & guitarist. Tishma immediately became the ultimate icon for girls around the country and also the idol for new female artists & today almost all new female singers of Bangladesh follow Tishma's style.
Tishma is the girl who single-handedly changed the face of Bangla music and she is the one who first totally changed & modernised the entire path for female singers in Bangladesh, not only in terms of music, vocal & music genres but also in terms of stage performance, fashion & get-up, video performance & presentation.
Tishma's debut album was released well before her O levels, when she was just a young schoolgirl. Storming into the Bangla pop scene as a child artist with her debut album "Tara" (Star) in 2003, Tishma was instantly crowned the queen of pop with her mind-blowing style of music and image. She created a unique style of her own known as "Tishma-pop", introducing new sounds, rocking new genres, new glamorous style of presentation and choreographed stage performance in Bangladesh for the first time ever. Tishma simply single-handedly changed the face of Bangla pop music forever. So powerful is Tishma's image, that today, virtually not a single new female pop artist exists who has not been influenced by Tishma in some way or another. And since her phenomenal debut in 2003, Tishma (who is also famous for her Hollywood-star good looks and unique iconic, heavily-imitated fashion style of her very own) has remained the ultimate Pop Icon and trendsetter in music and fashion trends in Bangladesh. Today almost all new female singers of Bangladesh follow Tishma as their music and fashion icon!
Being a true musical pioneer, Tishma has created many musical "firsts" for Bangladeshi artists: amongst Bangladeshi female artists, Tishma is the first female music composer, music director and music arranger in Bangladesh. As well as composing, creating tracks and even writing songs, Tishma is also the first female professional pianist, guitarist and keyboardist ever in Bangladesh. She is the singer and writer of the first original English song ever released in Bangladesh by a female artist. She introduced many other genres of music to Bangladesh including R&B, soul, funk, opera, rap, soul, punk-pop rock, ballads, disco, dance-pop and many more international genres in Bangladesh. In addition, Tishma wrote and sang the first English song by a female singer in Bangladesh, and she is also the first Bengali female rapper and female hard rock singer of the Bengal subcontinent. As well as these many innovations in music, Tishma also is the first artist in Bangladesh to perform with a full singing-dancing choreographed setup and introduce lively, glamorous music videos.
Since Tishma was the pioneer in her field, at first although Tishma gained tremendous popularity and instantly became a household name with the listeners, in the beginning she also faced some criticism because she was making such major changes in Bangla music; but soon afterward, when she successfully had established her own unique innovative and rocking musical styles and exceptional versatility and talent, she gained huge appreciation both for her courage as a musician and as a trailblazer in Bangla music, and also as a strong feminist icon for women and girls. Tishma is renowned for changing the face of Bangla music, with her powerful vocal, unique glamorous style, stunning stage presence and trendsetting ways in both music and fashion, and now today many female artists are following Tishma as their role model!
Tishma has created her own unique style and genres with her immense talent. Tishma began to sing from the time she had just learned to talk, and she first began playing the keyboard from the tender age of three, and her musical education began soon after. Showing an obsession for music from such a young age, Tishma trained in European Classical Music under the Royal Schools of Music, London, as well as later receiving intense training in Indian classical music from the topmost Ustads of the country after she came to Bangladesh. Though Tishma is known as the country's rock queen, she has the most versatile voice in Bangladesh. She can sing all genres of music from rock and hip hop to Rabindra Sangeet and Indian classical! She received both international awards in European classical music and of course all the topmost national music awards as well. She is the only singer in Bangladesh who has received training in both European classical music and Indian classical music.
Born in a family who loved both music and travelling, as a child, Tishma & her family lived in & travelled in many different countries (UK, where Tishma started her education, France, Italy, Germany, Austria, Croatia, Switzerland to name just a few), and so Tishma was exposed to many different cultures & many kinds of music (her parents are both avid music lovers who love to collect music from all over the world), & Tishma fell in love with music very early. She hummed her first tune before she even spoke her first words!
Tishma studied both Indian and Western classic music from childhood. As a child, Tishma spent a large part of her childhood in Europe, and began her education in Camberly, UK. She has studied Western Classical Music under the Board of Royal Schools of Music London, and has studied Indian classical music under numerous Ustads including Ustad Akhtar Sadmani, Shampa Reza and Ustad Shonjib De. She has also received training in Rabindra Sangeet from Anupam Barua of Shantiniketan. She is currently is now studying Indian classical music under Ustad Shonjib De. Tishma has released songs in an impressive list of genres including rock, Bangla folk, opera, R&B, Nazrul, Rabindra Sangeet and Adhunik. No wonder then, that Tishma is renowned for her stunningly versatile voice!
As well being the pop princess of Bangladesh, Tishma is a brilliant student. In both her O levels and A levels, she received a record-breaking number of A's.... [in one sitting, 9 A's in O levels and 5 A's in A levels], and she is currently studying Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering at North South University, where she is the highest CGPA holder of her department.
Tishma's debut album was released in 2003; she released a total of eight albums within just four and a half years, and is the only Bangladeshi teenage artist in history to have achieved this record. Tishma's popularity is only paralleled by the older folk singer Mumtaz. Each of Tishma's 8 solo albums enjoyed record-breaking sales in Bangladesh. Some of her many, many, many famous smash hit songs are "X FACTOR", "CHANDER MEYE JOSNA", "SWEETHEART", "BOYFRIEND", "SHADHER LAO", "REQUEST (BRISHTI TOMAR PAYE DHORI)", "CHANDER BURI (SHOKALE UTHIYA AMI BOLI)", "BASHIWALLAH", "SHAM RAKHI NA KUL RAKHI", "ANANDER MELA (DIGI DIGI DUM DUM)", "DHAKA (KAKA LO JAIGA)", "MEGH JHORANA", "PROJAPOTI", "CHOLONAR DABA", "TUMI ESHO AMAR BARI", "SCHOOLBAG", "BAULA PREM", "JAADU", "DEEWANA", "CHAND HOYE TUMI", and many many more.
After a whirlwind nine years of endless successes, eight chart-topping albums, dozens of national & international awards, and multiple strings of number one hits in the Bangladesh pop scene, Tishma has taken a short media break to concentrate on her intense engineering studies. Nonetheless, Tishma has just released her eighth and latest solo album is named "X FACTOR", which is a compilation of new and old hits by Tishma. The teenage artist has promised her fans that, as soon as her academic pressures subside, she will return to wow the crowds and rock the nation once again.
